What is the aim of the project?

Wild Mont-Blanc is a program developed by the Research Center for Alpine Ecosystems to measure how climate change is impacting different alpine environments, and understand how alpine species can (or cannot) adapt to their changing environment.

In this project, Zooniverse volunteers are helping by identifying emblematic species like chamois, ibex, marmot, snowshoe hare, deer, roe deer, alpine ptarmigan, and black grouse throughout the year and in all different climatic conditions from the base of the valley up to the high mountains.

Who can participate and how?

To participate in the project, all you need is internet access and a device (laptop, tablet, smart phone, etc.). Go to the project website and click on ‘Get Started’. There will be a short tutorial providing instructions on how to classify on the project. Take advantage of the ‘Talk’ discussion forum, if you have any questions and/or see something of interest that you want to spark a discussion with the research team around.

You can participate for as long as or as short as you’d like; i.e., 1 minute and 1 classification or a lifetime of participation. We welcome and appreciate any and all input!

What happens with the results?

All classifications are incorporated into the research team’s efforts to label the uploaded datasets. Each image is classified by many people and the results are aggregated to create a consensus result.

The research results are posted to here and shared with participants through newsletters and blog posts.

What is the aim of the project?

Alpine Bug Shot is a research project studying how climate change is affecting alpine plant-pollinator interactions in the Swiss Alps. The team is testing new automated camera traps to monitor pollinators and examining whether the surrounding floral environment influences visitation rates to generalist versus specialist flowers.

In this project, Zooniverse volunteers are helping by identifying insects in field images, which will train AI models to analyze millions of additional frames. This work enables scientists to track ecological changes more efficiently and at a much larger scale.

Daten werden immer wichtiger in der heutigen Gesellschaft und ebenso in der Wissenschaft über alle Disziplinen hinweg. Auch deswegen gehört Open Research Data (ORD) in vielen Bereichen zur guten Praxis oder ist gar obligatorisch. Im Rahmen der ECSA hat sich gezeigt, dass sich auch die Citizen Science Community mit ORD beschäftigt. Das ist nicht überraschend, gelten doch beide Bereiche als wichtige Pfeiler von Open Science (im Sinne der UNESCO).

Das Geschäftstselle Citizen Science Schweiz arbeitet mit zahlreichen Partnerorganisationen zusammen, die auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene bei der Entwicklung und Förderung von Citizen-Science-Projekten aktiv sind.

Neben unzähligen engagierten Citizen Scientists gehören zum Netzwerk von Schweiz forscht unterschiedlichste Organisationen aus verschiedensten Disziplinen. Die Mitglieder arbeiten unter anderem für Hochschulen, Verwaltungen, Verbände, Natur- und Tierparks, Bibliotheken, Museen, Archive, medizinische Institutionen, private Organisationen, NGOs, Stiftungen, Medienhäuser oder den Akademien der Wissenschaften. 

All diese Organisationen und ihre Vertreter:innen eint, dass sie sich für die Unterstützung und Förderung von Citizen Science in der Schweiz einsetzen. Möchtest auch du Mitglied werden? Seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 2015 reagiert das Citizen-Science-Netzwerk Schweiz forscht auf die Bedürfnisse verschiedener Akteure in der Schweiz. Das Ziel des Netzwerks ist es, das gegenseitige Lernen und den Austausch zum Thema Citizen Science in der Schweiz zu stärken und eine bessere Anerkennung durch interessierte Personen, Fördergebende und Forscher:innen zu gewährleisten. Dazu unterstützt das Netzwerk Arbeitsgruppen, die sich in unterschiedlichen Feldern und zu unterschiedlichen Themen mit Citizen Science befassen.

Rund um die Parkforschung hat sich eine Arbeitsgruppe formiert, die sich spezifisch mit dem Potential von Citizen Science für die Schweizer Pärke und Welterbegebiete befassen.
